Costuming is a hobby for all ages and you won't want to miss the spectacle at Gen Con.
Cosplay, or costume play, is the art and science of dressing up to portray a character. Attendees dress up as a variety of characters, from their favorite TV series, comic books, and video games.
Each year, Gen Con has many hours of programming related to cosplay, including costuming workshops, seminars on presentation and cosplay etiquette, and many more events. Many of these events are conducted by our featured cosplayers, and our Cosplay Guest of Honor.

The pinnacle of all things costuming ... the Gen Con Costume Contest. Held on Saturday of the convention this event is not to be missed. Incredible costumes are on display during this free to spectator event although a badge is must.
You don't want to miss this dazzling display of creativity!
Contestant sign-up happens in the spring of the current convention year so be sure to back for details.
A Costume Parade through the Indiana Convention Center will begin at approximately 3 pm on Saturday of the convention. Anyone in costume may join the parade anywhere along the route. The parade route is announced prior to the show.
We have dedicated areas for you to take a picture of your favorite costumes or have your picture taken! Stop by and take a photo of your costume to post online and share it with friends!
Gen Con has a dedicated Instagram account #GenConCosplay to showcase all of the amazing costumes you'll see at the convention. Be sure to tag your photos to this account too!
Gen Con hosts a Hall Costume Contest during the show; Come dressed as your favorite character, creature or creation Thursday, Friday or Saturday to join this contest! Our cosplay team will be roaming the hallways handing out ribbons for the best costumes! Bring your creativity and wear your finery because you never know who might be watching!
Cosplay is a culture that celebrates inclusion and mutual respect. Thus, please be cautious when interacting with each other and keep your hands to yourself. If you would like to take a photo of or with another Gen Con attendee, please ask before doing and respect that person’s right to say no. In short: be kind, be respectful, and make the cosplay experience fun for everyone involved!
