Short Description:
Join Neil Duffey (ImpendingDuff) to learn how to paint realistic gems, lenses, and glass effects on miniatures. Master light, reflection, and contrast.
Long Description:
Join Neil Duffey, aka ImpendingDuff, for a miniature painting class focused on gems, lenses, and other reflective surfaces. Known for his signature gem and lens work, Duff teaches the core concepts behind creating convincing shine, depth, and realism using simple, repeatable techniques.
Students will learn how light interacts with reflective surfaces, where to place highlights and shadows, and how to use contrast to sell the illusion of glass and gemstones. A good understanding of glazing—or having taken Duff’s glazing class, available during this convention—is recommended.
Students receive a miniature to paint and take home, plus a PDF outline. Students are encouraged to bring a size 2 brush with a sharp point, though basic brushes are available for use.
