The other couple we're travelling and sharing a room with got the better time in the housing pool, but we wanted to use our credit card to secure the room. Does anyone know if that'd be an issue? (I.e. "Jill Schmo" reserves the room on her account but uses my credit card to do so.)

Not an issue.  I did this last year.  When they fill out the room request they may want to put your name as one of the primary guests though

and when at the hotel, you can change the payment method.  The CC is used to ensure you show up, once you register you can setup a different card, pay with cash, etc.
