Is the hotel cancelation deadline also the modification deadline?

If I wanted to drop just my Sunday night, is the deadline to modify my reservation without any penalty also May 28th?

MODIFICATION POLICYYou can modify your room assignment as needed and free of charge, provided the assignment is not canceled in its entirety. Free modifications include change of hotel, room type, stay dates, roommates, guest contact information, special requests such as ADA Accessible room, and credit card information. Changes can be performed from the time you receive the initial assignment acknowledgment through the close of housing registration on July 15, 2024

May 28th is the deadline to cancel with just a $50 fee, after that date you can still modify for free or cancel at the cost of a full night's stay. 

July 15th is when the portal locks in all bookings and forwards them to the hotels. You might still be able to cancel our modify a reservation after that time but you would have to contact the hotel directly, Q-Rooms has no control of your booking after July 15th.

Once the portal locks, are we able to then get control of our room in the respective hotel apps?  Or does that never happen?  First time in the block.  I was hoping I could get them in my hilton account at some point.

The rooms need to be changed over to the hotels. It will take some time to do that. 

Once it is done you can call the hotel...or do it at the front desk when you arrive?

I've found the best way is just to talk to the front desk staff when you check in. I don't have a Hilton account, but at the Westin I just make sure they have my Marriott account linked to the room. Usually all it takes is making sure they have your email address or whatever that ties into your account. They should know exactly what you're talking about when you ask them.

I checked into the Embassy Suites online last year when I had a surprisingly unhelpful person at the front desk refusing to let me choose my room, so I just chose it in the app instead

You should be able to modify your reservation in Q-Rooms to add your loyalty account number. Last year my Marriott room showed up on the app about a week after the reservations was transferred with no action needed on my part.

I was also able to message the hotel through the app to let them know I was severely delayed so that they would not release my room as a no-show.
