Is there a list of promos being release this year? I know of Spin Master offering a Marvel United promo but not much info as if you need to purchase a core set or if it's just available.

I've had the Gen Con set for a few years.  It is wonderful when someone asks 'What is the convention like?' or 'Ok, our party hit the busy market, surely we can find lockpick tools....wait...a dragon?  That was a dragon!'
