Catan Tournament - info for a newby

I'm in the Catan qualifier tournament on Friday & I don't really know what to expect.  What do us newbys need to know?  Particularly - how much of my day/evening will be spent at the tournament?  I have plans for a dinner & show on Fri.  Should I worry?
