Does anyone know what type of rooms are available at the Columbia Club? They have a bunch of different types but no specific rooms are listed.
We stayed there 3 years ago.  The lobby area is exquisite and the location isn't bad. It's a good location for Steampunk photos, for example.  However, the rooms are very, very old school as the building was a gentleman's club at the turn of the last century.  The rooms are small, cramped, and in our case mildewy/smoky (despite my contacting the hotel in advance that I had asthma and needed a really clean room  :::sigh:::).  We also have a lovely room view of a brick wall!  If I had no other downtown choice, I'd go with them, but it would be at the bottom of my list.

The hotel staff seemed confused--then amused--by GenCon.  We were in full out, elaborate cosplay for each of the 4 days, and we used kick scooters to commute to and from the Convention Center. Definitely NOT your average, conservative hotel goer.  ;-)   Typical gamers, we chatted up everyone and tipped well, so they loved us.  Interestingly, the bell hop/door men shared with us that the really scary types are when the Porn Industry is in town for their convention.  They said the women looked unhappy and uncomfortable, the men looked pissed off all the time and shouted into their phones a lot.  They love the Gamers as we are always happy/laughing and like to talk about things.

On some level I agree - Gen Con is a vacation for me, and one that I haven't missed since the '80s, that said, not being able to stay within a reasonable walk of the convention center boarders on being a deal breaker, especially with the state of public trans/cabs in Indy.

I'm at about an hour and a half wait.  Not holding much hope but I'm going to wait it out.

So here's a weird question. (Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere, I'm honestly not sure how to phrase a search query.) One of our group (of 8) got in to the portal in 13 minutes, and got a room downtown. Our next group member is at the 1 hour mark. If the first reservation included that second person's name as a guest, will it block them from trying to get a room when their time slot opens? Is the housing system that sophisticated? Or are the guest names simply for the hotel's records?

Good luck to all the hotel hunters out there!

I had this problem last year, I think, but not sure if something else was involved. I mean, there are plenty of names that more than one person share.

If possible, I would see if you couldn't change it...

No it will not block him.

No that should not be an issue.

While making my reservation, it seemed the Wait List button had a red exclamation mark on it.  However, my reservation went through with all dates requested.  I have a confirmation number and email with no mention of a wait list.  Can I be certain this is not wait listed?

Well your reservation when through, it's just the shoulder dates that were at issue.  Look at the confirmation and see what specific nights you have on there.

All dates requested are showing on my reservation confirmation.

Does anyone know if I can make a reservation and then transfer it to another person in my group later (that is more finanacially suitable for footing the initial bill)?

Yes. Or you can just make the reservation in their name to begin with.

Anyone hit the wall yet?
Are rooms within walking distance still available?
As of right now, there are still rooms available 4 and 5 blocks out with a Wed check-in Sun check-out.  1 and 2 blocks out if you are checking in Tuesday.

edit: now they are gone. :(

Thanks for the heads up. We're planning on coming in Tuesday leaving Monday... here's to hoping that in half an hour ANYTHING is left. :-/

Just got in to the Sheraton (Downtown), don't think there was much Downtown left. I kind of panicked and went for the first one I could grab! Good luck to all those who come after me.

Pretty much everything was there except suites.  This is my first year going though so I don't know if VIG is different

Reading on I will guess it is different.

Well, I'm over 11 miles away... hardly seems worth it now. :-/

Yeah, I found that Wed-Sun within walking distance was generally sold out by the time I got in. My friends found a hotel already on their own, outside of the housing portal for Thurs-Sun, within driving distance, at a better going rate not listed as available in the housing portal. While the portal is handy, you may want to just start shopping around on your own.
