5e GM Looking to Volunteer
Posted by kowabunga

Hey there! Looking to volunteer to DM some games while at GenCon. This would be my first time attending GenCon so would like to have time to explore also. Looking to hopefully find a group who is familiar with the Con and hopefully a group to share a room if possible. Not sure how this works fully so any advice I would greatly appreciate.

Hey! Welcome to GenCon! It's awesome that you're looking to volunteer as a DM and get involved in the gaming community here.

As for volunteering, it's a great way to meet new people and contribute to the gaming atmosphere. You'll typically sign up for volunteer slots through the GenCon website or at the convention itself. Make sure to check out the volunteer opportunities section on the GenCon website for more details.

As for finding a group and sharing a room, you might want to post in the GenCon forums or on social media groups dedicated to GenCon attendees. There are often people looking for roommates or groups to join for games, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a good fit.

Awesome! These are the only forums I see. Where are the GenCon forums as these are the only ones I see. If you mean unofficial forums - any you would recommend?

If you're interested in Harry Potter, the group that runs those games (5e rpg) is always looking for more GMs. They also run a big monster PVP-style arena game. You can email [email protected] .

Go check out Baldman Games.  They run the D&D experience and are currently talking applications on their website.  They provide rooms if you DM enough games.

This will be my first time to Gen Con. I am flying in from MD and curious if there is some type of bag check/coat check to not only store luggage (so I don't have to uber from the aiport to my hotel and then come back to the convention) but also store purchases that we buy so we don't have to lug them around all day? One other question, after getting my badge on Wed, what events/activities are happening on Wed?

Unfortunately there's no bag check.

Once the event catalog goes live, you'll be able to find plenty to do Wednesday.  Games of course, but there's usually a party to unveil the official Gen Con beer, pizza, etc.

Where would I find info for the party, and do I need a Wednesday badge for it?

No, fortunately it is not only open to Trade Day participants, as big a perk as that would be!  It is called the Block Party and is probably going to be in the space between the convention center and the Lucas Oil Arena again, starting in the evening on Wednesday and going like 12 hours a day Thursday-Saturday.  I do not remember what the Sunday situation is, if any
