It's funny that GenCon has so many attendees that will min/max a character or play a game to the highest possible percent outcome with delight but when it comes to proper masks and safety basically go "Welp, vaccines and good mask don't 100% protect me so they're useless and shouldn't be worried about."
I won't argue the science as you said. I'm just pointing out what to me is the obvious discussion that people should be having regarding masks in general. If they are only going to be worn in the convention center and nowhere else how much protection do people actually think they are getting?
Final health guidelines are updated. Vax/masks as expected. There was zero expectation (for me) that this would ever change when 1st announced earlier in the year. I'd be curious if they ever wavered or just did the act like they were considering.
The following is sarcasm.
I'll keep my shirt on, thank you, even though the sun is only more dangerous outside than in the ICC, though I suppose most want to strip down on entering the building. Protective garments are protective garments, I'm so silly. :)
The above is sarcasm.
Is there a "I survived the New Health Update forum posting" t-shirt I get or something?
If I didn't feel like angering the forum Gods, I'd post a 2023 Health Update thread now...
Says updated June 8th and 'These are the final...'
no big surprise by this.
What are the hours on Wednesday for the Vaccination check stations?
Everyone who has posted in this thread and is attending Gen Con owes Mike a beverage of his choice. Thanks, Mike!
Gamers are not usually the most healthy community of people.
So there was a change with this latest update. Before it was mask and vaccination card. Now it requires government Id? Is this a mistake? So kids without a government issued ID can’t attend? If so are you offering full cash refunds since the requirement changed?
Well that cements it. Sad to see the vaccine requirement is sticking around. Perhaps next year will be different.
Best of luck to you all. I hope you have a safe, wonderful time at the con. See you next year, hopefully.
Yes, I know games are ostensibly outdoors, but a similar demographic packed into tiny little seats next to each other for a few hours screaming at the top of their lungs. Or how about the Colts fans last year during the convention... indoor stadium, similar demographic, packed into tiny little seats next to each other for a few hours screaming.
Masks and vaccines are a done deal for this year and I will begrudgingly accept that. However I still wonder, given the endemic state of COVID, if next year is going to be demonstrably different than this year. I keep hearing that if you don't want to wear a mask don't attend Gen Con. I would argue the opposite is equally valid... if you are that worried about COVID Gen Con might not be the best place for you to spend a few days.
