Then he ended up with me.
:)
Your still awesome roderick. It’s that Mike guy that worries me. Heh.

This is a situation where things are changing week to week, if not day to day.
Maybe a weekly update to the page to simply note that 'As of ____ this stance has not changed' to indicate that it is indeed updated and accurate information would be beneficial?
Would it stop people from complaining? No, probably not. But it's not unreasonable to look at the most 'recent' news, find it to be nearly a month old, and wonder if anything has changed.
The US had ~1/4 of the current confirmed cases and ~1/7 of the current confirmed fatalities when that announcement came out.
Before anyone vents their spleen on me here, I'm not expecting hourly updates or something. But there's a big grey area between 'way too often' and 'monthly, if that'. Merely verifying the statement on a weekly basis presumably wouldn't be too egregious an ask. If it's still on, then they've reassured people of that fact, and shown to be actively (proactively, even) on top of matters on a regular basis.
Personally, swinging by the site to see that nothing has changed in nearly a month doesn't fill me with confidence, especially as the world reels from the events of that month. (globally, cases have roughly tripled and fatalities have roughly quadrupled in that time frame)
Something can be done well and there can still be room for improvement. I have enjoyed my Gencon experiences to date and have full faith that the Gencon team has the community's (both Indianapolis' and the gamers who attend alike) best interests at heart. I simply offer that there may be room for improvement, from my perspective.
As we say where I work, "there are no secrets until there is actual information".
i asked them to update the public facing post once a week.
i even gave a bunch of context why that would be helpful and even reassuring, for presumably negligible effort.
edit: changing a date stamp isn’t a Herculean effort.
Count me in the group of those that definitely plan to attend if the con does go on, and personally, I see no problem with how Gen Con has addressed things do far. I feel it would be silly to cancel the event before they absolutely have to. However, I think most of us see the issue with just accepting the company line at face value. Under the current circumstances, unless things change, it will simply not be legal to hold any event of this size. This is something that is out of the Con's control, and it would not be fair to expect comment. The only real thing I would love to know is what the ultimate deadline is for a final decision. Obviously, the con committee can't come out a week before the event and say, "Oops, sorry, we were hoping to go on as planned, but it just isn't going to work out". Personally, I'm hoping for some new info by event registration.

Then why make regular updates? If you're right and it changes day to day, they should post every week until the state is shut down? Until there's a major change there's no point in saying "We're still where we are" everyday they DON'T say "we've changed to X" it means "we are where we are".. so you are getting your update weekly by them saying nothing
PS-there was an update today, events are delayed
They need to put an "updated on [date]" tag as part of that link on the front page, rather than at the top of the page the link goes to. Either that, or change the Event Registration date in the sidebar to "TBD."
EDIT: As of 3:35 p.m. Eastern, they've removed the Registration date.
Thanks for updating things.
As to the daily or weekly updates on whether or not this is canceled, maybe just use common sense?
I’m pretty sure if the event got canceled, there would be some media on it. Until then, assume that nothing has changed until it has. Just like everything else.
You probably don’t have to ask your employer every day whether you’re still employed. They’ll tell you when you aren’t.
If you don’t feel comfortable going, for uncertainty with your job, your health, or life/family circumstances, don’t go.
