Now that you mention it, as long as we're talking about the adjustments needed to run GC in 2020, is there a Murder Hornet action plan? They could issue flamethrowers and Taurus Judge revolvers for the staff.

Nope, we all just need to have Praying Mantis.

Not sure what this is adding to the conversation...on thin ice here.

Has there been any discussion on how the attendees are going to be feed? The food truck lines tend to be long and cramped. I imagine curbside pick-up from the restaurants will be interesting.

Mike, can you make sure to post any updates to this thread as a new comment going forward?

It was a bit odd to find out about the delay in event ticketing from other forum posters.

Note: On phone browsers there is no link to the update on the homepage after log in.

It was updated on our site so I did not see the need to put it on the forum, but I hear you.
I can update the thread on changes.

I don't recommend using your phone for updated info. Development work on that is not as far along.

If everything is going according to the Governor's outline (that is a big If) then restaurants will be able to open to full capacity. It would also have to meet the Mayor's outline as well but that hasn't been released to my knowledge.

If the restaurants are not allowed open to full capacity then I would think Gencon isn't happening at that time.

As far as the food trucks go, that is likely to be a thing for the Mayor's office to sort out as opposed to Gencon (as to closing extra streets or limiting the number of trucks allowed). I would imagine there will be a lot of discussion within the Mayor's office come late June if things are looking optimistic at that time. Any plan at this point would be subject to so much change as to almost be worthless.

The sooner they cancel Gen Con, the sooner we can hopefully get refunds from Marriott.
It’s a lost cause

Refund from Marriott for what?

If you booked through portal, Marriott doesn't have any of your money yet.  And if you booked outside portal, it's between you and Marriott and isn't reliant on Gen Con.

Ditto for cancelling airline reservations.  Some news would be welcomed at some point soon.

The airlines and hotel chains all have fairly generous cancellation policies right now. I know, because i have already had to cancel 5 trips for various cons/events this year. There shouldn't be an issue. Bonvoy/Marriott is one of the companies with an extremely generous cancellation policy right now. They are even refunding pay-in-advance-non-refundable rates.
Personally, I want GenCon to take as long as they need to ensure that this year's con can happen. Is it frustrating to wait? Definitely. But I know that the delay is because they are trying to make it work. I WANT them to make it work.
It's not GenCon's job to cancel because you demand it be so. It's GenCon's job to make this convention work if at all possible. I have strong faith that this is exactly what they are doing.
If you don't want them to make it work because you don't want to attend, then cancel now. Be happy with your decision to not attend, regardless of what GenCon does. But those of us who want to attend are just waiting patiently for information on how this will all work.

I couldn’t agree more with this.

You get a big gold star.

Best news in weeks. Go Indiana, go.

The below is from the official Indiana government website just released. No political spin, just facts from the government:

https://backontrack.in.gov/2348.htm

“INDIANA

Indiana's plan is more rigorous than Kentucky's. Stage two began May 4 and on May 11, restaurants and salons will be open again, with restrictions. Gov. Eric Holcomb has already laid out a 5-stage plan that has things mostly back to normal by July 4.”

(Just being humorous, this is sort of what we've been talking about for the last five pages, no?)

Looks like this confirms the original suspicions; Stage Five or Bust.

It really is looking to be a case of "business as usual or no business at all", but I do hope that GenCon has a mask policy in place, particularly for tight areas like the dealer hall and lines. And a mask policy than makes people cover their noses as well as their mouth, because I'm seriously afraid I'm going to start screaming at people who leave their noses hanging out.

Except that Indianapolis is on stay at home orders until the 11th.

The Governor's plan is for the State and individual Mayors will handle altering that plan (being more restrictive) to fit their respective cities.

It makes sense to do it that way cause a "one size fits all" plan will fail multiple locales.

It's great news, but in the end it doesn't matter if everything goes according to plan if most of the rest of the world are still battling the virus. For the con to go as planned you need publishers and they come from all over the world, are they gonna be able to come and, if so, are they willing to come if they know that a lot of people are not gonna attend on both side (attendees and workers)? I hope that the con will resume with some guidelines, but let's not forget for the con to happen, not only Indiana, but a big part of the world will need to be in a better shape, if not it might still happen, but with only a couple of publishers.
Anyway fingers crossed

I think gen con is hoping for a miracle right now. Even in stage 5 it says groups of 250+may take place following the cdc social distancing guidelines.

The wording is a bit weird, but limiting groups to 250 is for "social gatherings" and that paragraph mentions things like weddings and parties. Under "What Opens" they specifically mention conventions, sporting events, fairs, festivals, and the state fair. The way I'm reading it is that Gen Con would be good to go when/if they reach that stage.

Another shoe dropped: WBC, which was scheduled for the same time as GenCon, has been cancelled

Note, however, that this takes place in western Pennsylvania; the state's proximity to New York may have played a part in this.
